5 Things to Include in your Media Kit
A media kit is one of the most valuable tools that you can use to position yourself for media opportunities and speaking gigs.
In a nutshell it’s simply a digital PDF with your information on it designed with the aim of showcasing your publicity with the hope of attracting press, publications, good PR, speaking gigs and media interviews.
You can send your media kit digitally when you are pitching or following up with to media sources or even by post to media sources, you can put it on your media page on your website (as a downloadable file). You can also do all or a couple of these things.
I’ve helped so many of my clients to have strong media kits whether that’s a media one page (a one page media kit) or a 2-6 page kit and this has massively impacted their businesses positively helping them to stand out as a bigger expert in their fields and giving them countless.
If you are considering creating a media kit here are some things to consider including:
A Short Media Bio:
This is a summary of your professional bio approx 150-250 words. The key with this bio is to sell yourself from a PR and media perspective rather than from a client attraction perspective, so one great thing to share in your media bio is where you’ve been seen in the media (a few names of media sources where you have been featured/seen) such as Forbes, BBC, Thrive Global and it doesn’t have to be be big sources it can also be smaller media sources too.Professional Photos:
Usually 2-6 images are sufficient for your media kit. Some add more and some add less, this usually depends on the length of your media kit.Media Logos:
If you have some media logos (where you have been featured in the media) add these to your media kit.Social Media Stats:
You can add different stats such as how many followers on social media, insights, number of views on 3-5 of your platforms i.e. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn etc.
5. A List of your Signature Topics:
The media usually desire to know what topics you can cover, so giving the media title ideas is a great thing. This can also apply if you are seeking speaking opportunities too some of my signature topics are ‘How to attract media interviews and good publicity in 2023’.
There are many other items that you can add to your media kit but also remember that you don’t need to add everything to it as you can also including items on your media page on your website if you have one.
